Spring Cleaning – Clean, Declutter and Organise Your Home
Getting rid of the excess clutter before you tackle the spring-cleaning makes the whole job seem a lot smaller. Taking the money and spending it on something fun for the whole family, such as horseback riding, a movie or a snorkelling class, will ensure that you have some quality family time and that it will not be spent on … more clutter.
Organise your closets, drawers and cabinets
Instead of taking one thing at a time from your closet and deciding whether to keep, donate or toss it, try going at this project in reverse. Unload everything from the closets, drawers or cabinets. Have three boxes or large bags marked “keep”, “donate” and “toss”. Begin by sorting through the pile of stuff and organising everything into the appropriate boxes. Once you have it all sorted, you can then reorganise your “keep” pile back into the closet, drawer or cabinet it came out of or relocate some things to a better area of the home.
Tip: before you place your “keep” items back into the proper space, take note of “like”, or similar items, such as shoes, hair accessories or gift wrapping stuff, which might be even better organised by purchasing bins, baskets or trays for additional storage ease and neatness.
Clean with ease
Utilise the cleaning power of your dishwasher. Pressure Cleaning service is terrific. Fill the dishwasher with all of your trinkets, ornaments and other dishwasher-safe décor (to be on the safe side, do not put anything that you are unsure would hold up in the heat and water pressure of the dishwasher, such as antiques, silk flowers and anything with gold trim). Set the dishwasher to the lightest setting and run through the cycle with or without the “dry” setting.
Take down all fabric window treatments and check labels for cleaning instructions. Wash or dry-clean as instructed. Dry clean lampshades or gently vacuum with the vacuums’ small brush attachment. Wipe blinds using a damp cloth.
Use a magnetic dust mop, such as a Swiffer Duster to run quickly over stacked books, ceiling fans, lamps and light fixtures. Using your vacuums wand and small brush attachment, run along ceiling and wall corners before washing them down with warm sudsy water.
