The roller doors used for the garage are one of the toughest and challenging doors in the world. These are able to last for several years, even without getting proper maintenance. But when it comes to service roller door, routine maintenance can extend its life exponentially. And if you are able to do the maintenance on your own, then the following tips can help you to maintain your garage door like a pro.
Door cleaning:
You should make it clear that you have clean the exterior of your garage doors at least two times in one year or even after every six months. Begin the cleaning process by wiping the door with the help of a good detergent and precede it by rinsing the water. After cleaning, dry it using lint-free rags. These rags can dry out the moisture which is left after the wash.
Lubricate all moving parts:
Lubrication is necessary in the process of garage doors installation to keep the moving parts of the garage door in work. And for this purpose, you are allowed to use either light oil or an aerosol lubricant. Ensure that you lubricate all these following parts of the door, including:
- The lift cables
- Steel rollers
- Pulley bearings
- Hinges
- Torsion springs
You must check if there are some broken, loose, or bent parts of the door. These parts can be:
- Rollers
- Tracks
- Hinges
If you find any of these parts broken, then replace them with a new one. Or, in case these parts are loose, then you have to tighten them with the help of screws associated with the parts.
Replace hinges or rollers:
If you need to replace the hinges or rollers of the garage door, you need to disconnect the power supplied to the garage door. After disconnecting the power, the door must be locked in a down position. It is recommended to remove one hinge or a roller at one time. Plus, you should never remove the bracket at the bottom as it is under tension.
Replacement of vertical tracks:
In this process, the door should be locked in an upright position after you disconnect the power supply. Like hinges and rollers, it is necessary to replace the tracks one side at one time. After this, you should unscrew one vertical track and replace it with a new one.
